IBEX Online Virtual Conference

The International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) is taking place virtually September 29 – October 2, 2020, and registrations are open. "IBEX Online: A Virtual Experience is a free trade event designed to allow the industry to come together in a safe and productive environment." The event organizers require that participants register before opening day to get the most out of the virtual experience.  IBEX Online will include over 800 product listings. Read more here.

Garmin Expands its Portfolio

Garmin, a worldwide provider of navigation, communications, and information devices, is expanding its marine portfolio to strengthen its position in the marine market. They recently announced the launch of its GMR Fantom 254/256 open-array radars, specifically designed for the marine sector. Quoting the article, "according to Garmin, the radars will help inform boaters and anglers of other boats, flocks of birds or weather ahead.” Read more here.


Metal Shark Completes Magnet

Metal Shark has completed its 48m expedition catamaran named the Magnet, and it’s the first aluminum build in its portfolio. Its rugged utilitarian style was intentional and designed to reach “the remote, unspoiled destinations that you can’t get to with an airplane," according to the owner George Wallner.  The superyacht can supposedly travel from New York to Miami in under 48 hours and can "cross oceans at 17 knots and reach a range of 11,000 nm at 10 knots." The Magnet features 12 solar panels and twin 2,600 bhp MTU IMO Tier III diesel engines. Read more here.


Horizon Yachts to Host Invitation Only Showcase

On Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, 2020, Horizon Yachts will host an invitation-only showcase at its Hall of Fame Marina location in Fort Lauderdale. During the two day event, four yachts will be available for a private viewing. Horizon Yachts will not be exhibiting at this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS).  Read more here.


Urging the Removal of Tariffs on Boats

Excerpt from the article: “Last week, NMMA, the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), and the European Boating Industry (EBI) sent a letter to the United States (US) and European Union (EU) trade officials are applauding recent progress on trade negotiations and urging them to reach an agreement that removes the EU's 25 percent tariff on US manufactured boats.” Read more here.
